Das Trio des kandadischen Gambisten Pierre-Yves Martel und der beiden Kölner Musiker Philip Zoubek und Carl Ludwig Hübsch feierte seine Premiere 2012. Im Laufe von mehreren Tourneen in Kanada und Europa entwickelte das Trio eine Musik, die transparent und geheimnisvoll zugleich wirkt. Jeder Ton scheint genau auf den Punkt gesetzt und die einzelnen Stimmen sind eindrucksvoll miteinander verzahnt. Die avancierten Spieltechniken der drei Musiker erschaffen im Zusammenspiel eine derartige musikalische Vielfalt, dass sie trotz vieler leiser Stellen und Pausen weit davon entfernt ist, eine blutleere reduktionistische Übung darzustellen. Nun trifft das Trio auf die in Wien lebende, kongeniale Violinistin Tiziana Bertoncini, deren Spiel sich im Grenzbereich Neuer Musik und freier Improvisation bewegt.

Nebbia // Kääriäinen

Nebbia // Kääriäinen is energetic duo between Camila Nebbia an Argentine-born saxophonist based in Berlin and Helsinki based guitarist Jukka Kääriäinen. The duo’s music draws from the European and American traditions of improvised music, with influences from notable figures such as Cecil Taylor, Anthony Braxton, Peter Brötzmann, and Derek Bailey. The duo’s focus is on exploring the interaction between collaborative composition and free improvisation within the frameworks of jazz, experimental music, and contemporary music.

Camila Nebbia from Buenos Aires, based in Berlin, is a saxophone player, composer, improviser, visual artist and curator. Described by Jazz PT magazine as “an essential saxophonist of our time”. The multidisciplinary artist layers her practice through the creation and destruction of archival memory, exploring the concepts of identity, migration, and memory. Her work includes improvised and composed music, film creation, and audiovisual performances, forming a constellation of interconnected practices.
Her most recent solo album –’una ofrenda a la ausencia’ (an offering to absence) with Relative Pitch Records– was described by the NYC Jazz Record as an ‘innately human and personal album, surprising listeners with a passionate approach to jazz’.
Played and recorded with many artists of the international scene such as Marilyn Crispell, Michael Formanek, Angelica Sanchez, Randy Peterson, Tom Rainey, Patrick Shiroishi, Vinnie Sperrazza, Katt Hernandez, Kenneth Jimenez, Lesley Mok, Susana Santos Silva, Elsa Bergman, l’ Arfi collective of Lyon, Joanna Mattrey, Vincent Dromowski’s Flow regulator, Kit Downes, Andrew Lisle, John Hughes, among others.
Co-funder together with Maria Grand and Marta Sanchez of the independent record label Lilaila. Co-curator of the interdisciplinary festival “Guillotina” in Buenos Aires, and curator of the streaming concert series called “A door in the mountain”. Curates the series “Disfigured Rivers” based in Berlin and its part of the curatorial team of the experimental music series Future Bash Reloaded.

Jukka Kääriäinen born in 1987, is a Helsinki based musician focused on experimental music. Depending on the situation, Jukka’s instruments of choice include an acoustic guitar with preparations or an electric guitar with a array of pedals. Kääriäinen has performed in many European countries and at international festivals in the United Kingdom, Spain, and France. In addition to solo concerts, he regularly performs in bands and has collaborated with many leading European improvisers such as Teppo Hauta-Aho, Kalle Kalima, Harri Sjöström, Axel Dörner, Kriton Beyer, Rieko Okuda, Anil Eraslan, Mikko Innanen, and Joel Grip, premiering works by composers such as Riikka Talvitie, Sebastian Hilli, Sami Klemola, Clara de Asis, and Tytti Arola.
